Top 10 deepest oceans in the world

Top 10 deepest oceans in the world:

In this world there are so many water bodies, ranging from rivers, lakes seas and Oceans as well. Oceans and seas in this context are some of the natural wonders on the planet and they are always mesmerizing and beautiful to see. There massive sizes is a clear indicator of the strength of nature. They play a very important role in our climate and weather patterns and don't forget they are natural habitat of marine life. Let us study on deep oceans in the world. Now here we enlist below the top 10 deepest oceans in the world 2017.

10. Gulf Of Mexico ( 12,425 ft ) ( 3,787 meters )

The Gulf of Mexico is an Ocean basin and a marginal sea of the Atlantic ocean, largely surrounded by the north American continent. It is bounded on the north east north and northwest by the Gulf Coast of the United States on the Southwest and South by Mexico, and on the southeast by Cuba. The U.S. States of Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama and Florida border the gulf on the north, which are often referred to as the '' third coast '' in comparison with the U.S. About 33 rivers and 2017 estuaries feeds the ocean. The Gulf of Mexico is the origin of the Gulf Stream which is one of the powerful ocean currents in the world today. The Gulf coastline which is around 3,540 miles has a wide range of habitats. other facts about the Gulf of Mexico is that there are about 29 marine mammal species found in there, it's a home to 5 endangered sea turtles, you will find 49 Shark species, it's a home to sperm whales and finally there are four major industries in the Gulf of Mexico namely Oil, Shipping, Tourism and Fishing. Gulf of Mexico formed approximately 300 million years ago as a result of plate tectonics. The Gulf's basin is roughly oval and is approximately 810 nautical miles wide and floored by sidementary rocks and recent sidements.

9. Mediterranean Sea ( 15,197 ft ) ( 4,632 meters )

The Mediterranean sea is a sea connected to the Atlantic ocean, surrounded by the Mediterranean basin and almost completely enclosed by land; on the North by Southern Europe and Anatolia, on the South by North Africa and on the east by Levant. Although the sea is sometimes considered a part of the Atlantic ocean, it is usually identified as a separate body of water. It's the world's largest inland sea since it covers an approximate area of 2.5 million sq km. The sea is of higher salinity than Atlantic ocean and some of the major rivers that feeds the sea are Nile, Po, Ebro and Rhone. Many years ago the merchants and travelers used the Mediterranean sea as a rout for trade, war and colonization especially the Greek, Romans, Egyptians, Persians among other groups. The sea is an important fishing ground has natural oil and gas and still used as means of transport across several nations. The term Mediterranean derives from Latin word '' Mediterraneus '' meaning amid the earth or between land as it is between the continent of Asia and Africa and Europe.

8. Bering Sea ( 15,659 ft ) ( 4,773 meters )

The Bering sea is a marginal sea of the Pacific ocean. It comprises a deep water basin, which then rises through a narrow slope into the shallower water above the continental shelves. The Bering sea is separated from the Gulf of Alaska by the Alaska Peninsula. It covers over 2,000,000 square kilometers and is bordered on the east and north east by Alaska, on the west by Russian far east and the Kamchatka Peninsula, on the south by the Alaska Peninsula and the Aleutian islands and on the far north by the Bering strait, which connects the Bering sea to the Arctic Oceans Chukchi sea. Bristol Bay is the Portion of the Bering sea which separates the Alaska peninsula from mainland Alaska. The Bering sea is named for Vitus Bering, a Danish navigator in Russian service, who in 1728 was the first European to systematically explore it, sailing from the pacific ocean northward to the arctic ocean. The Bering sea ecosystem includes resources within the jurisdiction of the United States and Russia as well as International waters in the middle of the sea. The interaction between currents, sea ice, and weather makes for a vigorous and productive ecosystem.

7. South China Sea ( 16,456 ft ) ( 5,016 meters )

The South China sea is a marginal sea that is part of the pacific ocean, encompassing an area from from the Karimata and Malacca straits to the strait of Taiwan of around 3,500,000 square kilometers The sea carries tremendous strategic importance; one third of the world shipping passes through it carrying over $3 trillion in each year, it contains lucrative fisheries that are crucial for the food security of millions in southeast Asia, and huge oil and gas reserves are believed to lie beneath its seabed. Some of the rivers that feed this sea are Pasing, Mekong, Peal, Red, Pampanga pahang among others. The reason why South China sea is a disputed water it's because nearly a one third of all worlds shipping sails through these waters, and trillions of global trade passes through here so nearly all countries that border the sea want it to be declared an international water. This ocean is so famous and research shows that it has more than 200 hundred Islands together with reefs. Its depth to be measured around 5016 meters. Islands in this water body covers an area of 810 to 900 kilometer with Taiping Island being largest and covering a large area. It has a distance of approximately 1.3 kilometer.

6. Arctic Ocean ( 18,050 ft ) ( 5,625 meters )

Arctic Ocean is the smallest and Shallowest to the world's five major oceans. The International Hydrographic Organization recognizes it as an ocean. Alternatively the arctic ocean can be seen as the northernmost part of the all encompassing world Ocean. Located mostly in the arctic north polar region in the middle of the northern Hemisphere, the arctic ocean is almost completely surrounded by Eurasia and North America. It is partly covered by sea Ice throughout the year and almost completely in winter. The arctic ocean's surface temperature and salinity vary seasonally as the ice over melts and freezes; its salinity is the lowest on average of the five major oceans due to low evaporation, heavy fresh water inflow from rivers and streams, and limited connection and outflow to surrounding oceanic water with higher salinities. The summer shrinking of the ice has been quoted at 50%. The US national snow and ice Data center uses satellite Data to provide a daily record of arctic sea ice cover and the rate of melting compared to an average period and specific past years.

5. Caribbean Sea ( 25,220 ft ) ( 7,686 meters )

The Caribbean sea is a sea of the Atlantic ocean in the tropics of the western Hemisphere. It is bounded by Mexico and central America to the west and south west, to the north by the greater Antilles starting with Cuba, to the east by the lesser Antilles and to the south by the north coast of south America. The entire sea of the Caribbean sea, the numerous islands of the West Indies, and adjacent coasts are collectively known as the Caribbean. The Caribbean sea is one of the largest seas and has an area of about 2,754,000 square kilometers. The sea's deepest point is the caiman Trough, between the Caiman Islands and Jamaica, at 25,220 ft below sea level. The Caribbean coastline has many Gulfs and Bays; the Gulf of Gonave, The Gulf of Venezuela, Gulf of Darien, Golfo De Los Mosquitos, Gulf of Paria and Gulf of Hunduras. The Caribbean sea has the world's second biggest barrier reef, the Mesoamerican barrier reef. It runs 1,000 km along the coast of Mexico , Belize, Guatemala and Honduras. You totally need no introduction to such kind of a water body because it is so beautiful and attracts many tourists from different parts of the world who come to witness beauty of nature.

4. Southern Ocean ( 23,737 ft ) ( 7,236 meters )

The Southern ocean, also known as the Antarctic Ocean, or the Austral Ocean comprises the Southernmost waters of the world ocean, generally taken to be south of 60 degree S latitude and encircling Antarctica. As such, it is regarded as the forth largest of the five principle oceanic divisions; smaller than the pacific, Atlantic, and Indians oceans but larger than the Arctic ocean. This ocean zone is where cold, northward flowing waters from the Antarctic mix with warmer subantarctic waters. Some of the animals you can find in this ocean in large numbers are blue whales, Penguins, Seals squids and very few fish species. The average depth of Southern Ocean is about 23,737 ft but its deepest greatest depth is around 7,236 meter which is at South Sandwich Trench. The southern ocean geologically the youngest of the oceans was formed when Antarctica and and south America moved apart, opening the drake passage, roughly 30 million years ago. The separation of the continents allowed the formation of the Antarctic Circumpolar current. With a northern limit at 60 degree S the Southern Ocean differs from the other ocean in that its largest boundary, the northern boundary does not abut a landmass.

3. Indian Ocean ( 24,460 ft ) ( 7,455 meters )

The Indian ocean is the third largest if the world's oceanic divisions covering 70,560,000 square kilometers. It is bounded by the Asia on the north, on the west by Africa, on the east by Australia, and on the south by the Southern ocean or depending on definition by Antarctica. It is named after the Indian subcontinent. The Indian ocean is known as Ratnakara, '' the Mine of Gems '' in ancient Sanskrit Literature and as Hind Mahasagar in Hindi. The borders of the Indian ocean as delineated by the International Hydrographic organization in 1953 included the southern ocean but not the marginal seas along the northern rim, but in 2000 the IHO delimited the Southern ocean separately, which removed waters south of 60 degree S from the Indian ocean but included the northern marginal seas. Geographically it is the youngest of them all, it's the most complex in relation to its physical structure and the youngest compared to the top three world major oceans. Indian ocean has an average depth of around 3960 meters ( 12991 feet ) and the deepest point can be found in Indonesia in southern coast of Java and has 24,460 ft. Some of the countries that boarder Indian ocean Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, Iran to the north, Australia to the East, Africa and Arabian Peninsula to its western part.

2. Atlantic Ocean ( 30,246 ft ) ( 9,219 meters )

The Atlantic ocean is the second largest of the world's oceans with a total area of about 106,460,000 square kilometers. It covers approximately 20 percent of the earth's surface and about 29 percent of the water surface area. It separates the '' Old world '' from the '' New World ''. The Atlantic ocean occupies an elongated S shaped basin extending longitudinally between Eurasia and Africa to the east, and the Americas to the west. As one component of the interconnected global ocean it is connected in the north of the arctic ocean, to the pacific ocean in the southwest, the Indian ocean in the southeast, and the southern ocean in the south. The Equatorial counter current subdivides it into the North Atlantic Ocean and the south Atlantic ocean at about 8 degree N. Scientific explorations of the Atlantic include the Challenger expedition, the German meteor expedition etc. Its name is derived from Greek mythology '' sea of Atlas '' and is the second largest of all world's oceans. The ocean has an average depth of around 10,924 feet and the deepest part of the ocean is in Puerto Rico Trench which is around 9,219 meters ( 30,246 ft ).

1. Pacific Ocean ( 35,837 ft ) ( 10,924 meters )

Standing on the no.1 position deepest and largest ocean in the world is Pacific Ocean. The pacific ocean is the deepest and largest of Earth's oceanic divisions. It extends from the arctic ocean in the north to the southern ocean in the south and is bounded by Asia and Australia in the west and the Americas in the east. At 165,250,000 square kilometers in area, this largest divisions of the world ocean and it turns the hydrosphere covers about 46% of earth's water surface and about one third of its total surface area making it larger than all of earth's land area combined. Both the center of the water Hemisphere and the western Hemisphere are in the Pacific ocean. The equator subdivides it into the north pacific ocean and south pacific ocean with two exceptions, the Galapagos and Gilbert islands, while straddling the equator, are deemed wholly within the south Pacific. The ocean is the largest of all the oceans in the planet and is approximately to be between 165-182 million sq km and its total area is greater of that of the earth's surface. Pacific ocean average depth is around 14000 ft but has a deep area measuring 35,837 feet. Some of the countries bouldering the ocean  are Asia, America and Australia.
